Flew into London Wednesday morning at 6:00 on a Boeing 747-400. Biggest plane Katie and I have ever flown on. Had a small meal and breakfast on board. Didn't get much sleep.
Took the Tube into London and transferred twice. The other trains arrived within 30 seconds and didn't have to climb a stair with our luggage. Got off about 200 feet from our hotel front door in Bayswater of north London. Very diverse community, over 120 languages are spoken here.
Walked through Hyde Park and tried to find our ticket agent for a bus tour. After talking with employees from two different kiosks, they sent us on a wild goose chase because they didn't like the online discount I received. Finally found the main office and I told them our our treatment and it didn't do much good. I decided then to buy tickets there for the London Eye so we wouldn't have to wait in line later.
Rode the bus for two hours and saw the London highlights. It was breezy on top of the double decker, even though there was not a cloud in the sky. Beautiful.
Got off on the south side of the Thames and went to get on the London Eye. The clerk sold us tickets for the Tower of London! Wrong tickets. Bought Eye tickets there and went for a ride. Lots of great photos.
Decided I needed to go back and get a refund for my Tower tickets they sold me by mistake. Walked to the bus company and after an almost ugly scene they were happy to give me my money back for tickets I couldn't use.
Wanted fish and chips. Asked around and we were basically told you can't get good ones in London. Only York has good ones cause they use lard. quote/unquote. Settled on St. James Pub. Had a London signature flat, room tempature ale. My first and I could ge used to it. Fish and chips were a "C." Too bad, will find better.
Went to the British Museum and saw the Rosetta Stone. I will attach some photos of all this. Big museum, we were so tired we stumbled through it.
Photos of the last 24 hours:
Excited for the first Tube ride. Will publish more photos when I can think of a better, faster way.
