This is the last day in London as we head home tomorrow. I will update this sight with more photos and whatever for the next couple of weeks if you want to see more of that. I have about 2000 photos and a few hours of video.
We left our hotel in Torworth and explored a few towns in the Cotswolds before we caught our train to London at 1:45.
Couple of photos of the hotel we just left.
I hope this was a pet cemetary because no one lived past the age of 14.
You have to be brave to drive in this country.
Looks like you have to watch out for auto racing when you drive as well.
No we go into the Cotswolds, Burford and Burton-on the-Water.
Okay, this one is Bibury. The stream above is about 12 inches deep and loaded with rainbow and brown trout. There is a trout lying in the water in every 5-7 square feet of water. Lots of plants and ducks and tiny feeder fish everywhere.
NOW into Burford
Don't know if you can see above, but this building that is home to a kitchen store was built in the late 1500's. Thousands are in this area.
Everywhere beautiful cathedrals. They are very vast. It was Sunday and they all were ringing their bells.
Now to Bourton on the Water...I can't remember the correct spelling but this is closer.
I made the mistake of crossing a 500 year old bridge and going into a different part of the above town to park. I drove for a minute or so and came to the river again, to a spot where you could at one time in history drive across the river. Now you can't. So I had to turn around. A gentleman who lived on the river offered to open his iron gate in his driveway so I could turn around. Fortunately I didn't need that. Then I came to another sport where I rounded a lane that was a little wider than the car that went through many small shows. When I turned right at a corner, I was faced with the river again and had to turn around. The only way to do it was back into a little archway of a shop. People do this all the time because they park along this street. I felt a little obvious doint it, but no one even seemed to pay attention to this.
We finally had to drive on and take the car back to Cirencester. This is a bigger town so we allowed ourselves some time to find the rental agency again. We got a little lucky and found it quicker than we thought. We caught a taxi from their and went to Kemble Station. This is the same station we got off at a few days prior. This is not staffed on the weekend so we had to use the bathroom at a nearby pub. That was nice, people eating Sunday roast. I had to take a pint of cider to go.
The train sign said the trains were going to Swindon, then one three hours later to London. That was odd because my schedule said all were going to London. After asking a couple of people, they told me I had to go to Swindon and catch another to London.
To train coaches showed up (no engines on these) and we piled on. We had to stand for the 12 minute trip. The train showed up exactly on time as they all do and we got on in Swindon. There were no seats and hundreds got on. We walked the length of the coach and every seat was taken as they were all reserved. Our ticket was for any train we choosed.
Somehow we made our way to the back (or front) of the coach and stood for 90 minutes in the area between coaches with 10 other people. There were people lying in the aisles, standing and jammed in the areas between coaches. This also included dozens of pieces of luggage. We made it to London okay.
In London our two tube lines we needed to use were closed all weekend for maintenence. We had to do some created figuring and changed tubes and got off a few blocks farther away than we had planned.
Checked into the hotel and went to another organ recital at Westminster Abbey. Again, there is nothing like this. This is my favorite place in the UK.
After the recital we ate dinner at an Indian restaurant. This was fantastic. No photos.
The holtel is at 51 Buckingham Gate. Buckingham Palace is 1 Buckingham gate. We are one block from the Palace. After dinner we went there and watched the gards march in the dark. The front of the palace is all lit up an and is pretty spectacular. We then went for a walk through Westminster Abbey which is another spectacular place at night. As you get within a few blocks, you can see parliment, the Abbey and the London Eye all lit up. Amazing sight.
Tonight, we go to see Wicked and this afternoon Harrods.
